Tennessee sheriff's deputy wounded while responding to call

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee sheriff's deputy has been wounded while responding to a call, officials said.

The Knox County Sheriff's deputy was shot in the leg Tuesday night and taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center for surgery, news outlets reported, citing a statement from the agency.

The statement said Sheriff Tom Spangler has seen the deputy and described the officer as being "in good spirits."

No other injuries were reported. Details of what led to the shooting are under investigation, the statement said. No further information was immediately released.
