Scott Parrish elected chairman of Chattanooga-based law firm Miller & Martin

Scott Parrish has been elected chairman of the Chattanooga-based law firm of Miller & Martin and will serve as managing member for the firm's four offices.

Parrish, a 29-year attorney at Miller & Martin who has served on the firm's board of directors since 2012, succeeds Jim Haley, who held the chairman position since 2011.

"I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to lead Miller & Martin," Parrish said after members of the firm elected him chairman and he assumed his new post on Friday. "Our platform enables us to serve our clients by not only providing a full array of legal services, but also by partnering with our clients as trusted advisors. We will continue to grow and adapt to meet our clients' diverse needs in the marketplace."

Miller & Martin, the largest law firm in Chattanooga and one of the largest in Tennessee, operates offices in Chattanooga, Nashville, Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina. The firm has more than 130 professionals and another 90 persons on its staff in different support roles, Parrish said.

Miller & Martin was founded in 1867 by Col. T.M. Burkett and is one of Chattanooga's oldest businesses. The law firm is headquartered in the Volunteer Building in downtown Chattanooga where the business occupies nearly half of the 11-story office building.

Parrish came to the firm upon graduation from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1990. A partner in the firm's litigation department, Parrish practices in the area of business litigation, serves as the chair of the firm's trade secrets practice group and provides general counsel services to a number of clients. Parrish was named among The Best Lawyers in America for professional excellence in the area of litigation, he has substantial experience representing clients in federal and state court, mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Miller & Martin has expanded from its Chattanooga roots to other markets over the past three decades, but Parrish said there are no immediate plans to open other offices.

"The breadth of talent and experience which our attorneys possess positions us well for the ever-changing legal marketplace," he said.
