Some Chattanooga banks are scaling back retail operations as part of efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus.

While all local banks remain open, Regions Bank announced it will conduct business in person only by drive-thru or lobby appointment, starting Thursday and continuing until further notice. Pinnacle Bank implemented a similar move earlier this week to restrict walk-in access to its branches.

"Lobbies will be open for appointments only," Regions said in a notice to customers. "If you need to speak in-person with a Regions associate about your accounts, please select the "Make An Appointment" option at the bottom of any page on regions.com, on the Accounts tab of Online Banking, or in the Menu of the Regions Mobile app."

Chattanooga's biggest bank, First Horizon, is keeping its lobbies open for walk-in customer, but is encouraging customers to consider other ways to do their banking.

Banks and other service industries that serve the general public are trying to limit personal contacts with other people to limit the chances of the coronavirus spreading even more.
