Megan Roberts has been named news director of WRCB-TV Channel 3 in Chattanooga, succeeding Callie Starnes, who will become station manager of the NBC affiliate in January.

Roberts joined WRCB as a producer in 2013 and, after serving in key production roles at WSMV in Nashville, returned to Channel 3 and has served for the past two years as the station's assistant news director. Roberts also worked at WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, producing morning and evening newscasts.

"Megan believes in the importance of local journalism and Channel 3's mission to serve the Tennessee Valley as a dependable and trusted source of local news," Starnes said. "She is the right person to keep the Channel 3 newsroom moving forward."

Roberts is originally from Anniston, Alabama. She earned a degree in mass communications from Jacksonville State University. She serves on the board of directors for the Pet Placement Center of Chattanooga.

"Megan has the respect of our newsroom and is a clear choice to continue Channel 3's success as the market's local news leader," said Pam Teague, WRCB's general manager, who will become chief operating officer for Sarkes Tarzian Inc. in January.

Sarkes Tarzian Inc., headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana, owns WRCB-TV, along with another TV station, four FM radio stations and one AM radio station. WRCB is a media partner of the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Roberts will move into her new role in December and begin a search for a new assistant news director.

"I am incredibly proud of the Channel 3 newsroom and the way our journalists serve the Tennessee Valley," Roberts said. "It's an honor to lead this group of journalists."
