Join Dr. Barbara Lynes, organizer of the Hunter Museum of American Art's current special exhibit, for a behind-the-scenes talk about the life and work of artists William J. Glackens and Pierre-Auguste Renoir Thursday, Aug. 22.
The special tour will begin at 6 p.m. at Hunter Museum, 10 Bluff View.
Lynes is the Sunny Kaufman Senior Curator at Fort Lauderdale, Florida's Nova Southeastern University Art Museum, which has the country's largest collection of paintings and drawings by Glackens.
One of America's leading modern artists, Glackens (1870-1938) was known initially as an illustrator and painter of dark, somber street scenes. Throughout his artistic career he was increasingly influenced by the work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
Lynes has published more than 25 works and is one of the world's leading scholars on the life and work of Georgia O'Keefe. She has served as professor and chair of the Art History Department at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and as assistant professor of art history at Dartmouth University and Vanderbilt University.
Tickets for Thursday's tour are $20 for ages 18 and older, which includes admission to the Glackens & Renoir exhibition. Youth ages 17 and younger are free, as are Hunter Museum members.
