To celebrate Valentine's Day, Back Alley Productions opens the romantic comedy "Death Takes a Holiday" Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Mars Theatre in LaFayette, Ga. Five shows will be presented Thursday through Sunday afternoon.

The play takes a look at what might happen when Death wishes to experience the life he normally takes away. He wants to see what it's like to be human, why people are afraid of him and wants to hang onto their lives.

He chooses to take on a human form named Morte and selects an aging Duke of Lambert to be his guide because the Duke is a hugely successful man with conviction, strong moral fiber and insight on life. With the Duke as his guide, he begins to awkwardly navigate human activities that range from family to business to love.

Compounding the situation is a woman named Grazia, whom Death meets in a moment of instant, mutual attraction. Death soon realizes that for all his power, he simply has no knowledge about many things.

He's incredibly naïve and awkward about love. He's not used to making facial expressions. He's never tasted food. Ultimately, he has to undergo a huge change in order to understand life, love and - most of all -the end.

And while the Duke spends time with Morte, he begins to accept the inevitable ending of life. Examining these two opposite journeys, the audience will find something very interesting about true love.

A special couples ticket package for Valentine weekend is $30, which includes two tickets, one large popcorn, and two drinks (a savings of $8.) Tickets may be purchased online at www.BAPshows.com or at the box office 30 minutes before showtime.
