On a Saturday night in 1938, the Sanders family is booked by the Rev. Mervin Oglethorpe to lead a gospel singing at his country church in North Carolina's Smoky Mountains.

That's the scenario when "Smoke on the Mountain" opens Friday, June 14, in The Colonnade for seven performances.

The singing, testifying Sanders family lead the congregation (which is the audience) in two dozen songs - some vintage hymns, others rousing, toe-tapping bluegrass songs. After each song, a family member shares the story of an important event in their life; some hilarious, others poignant, but all memorable.

Josh Adler plays Pastor Oglethorpe in "Smoke on the Mountain." The singing Sanderses are Chris Crabtree as Burl Sanders, Sara Gard as wife Vera Sanders, Emma Karnes and Austin Campbell as twins Denise and Dennis Sanders, Salida Brooks as June Sanders and Phil Ledbetter as Stanley Sanders.

Denise Frye and Theresa Campbell play congregation members Miss Myrtle and Miss Maude, respectively.

"Smoke on the Mountain" continues through June 23.
