The premiere of a new Christmas anthem by local composer Ethan McGrath, "On the Morning of Christ's Nativity," will highlight the Christmas Eve service of lessons and carols at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine St.

The 5 p.m. service on Dec. 24 alternates readings of the Christmas story with carols sung by the congregation and anthems sung by the choir. The lessons will be read by the Rev. Cathy Meyer and lay readers.

Dr. Kevin Ford will lead the church Chancel Choir supplemented with former and current members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Chamber Singers. Debra Noblett will direct the church youth choir. The singers will be accompanied by organist David Friberg.

The hour-long program is free and open to the community.
