Nationally known pianist Gloria Chien will be the featured soloist when the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera presents Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2 during Thursday's concert, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St.

This performance is part of the CSO's year-long celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday.

Chien is artistic director of String Theory chamber music series held at Hunter Museum of American Art, a series she founded while a faculty member at Lee University.

"This program showcases works that pay homage to great composers," says Kayoko Dan, CSO music director.

"Gloria Chien will join us for Beethoven's second piano concerto, and Jelena Dabic's 'Beethaphase' is a reflection of Beethoven's works. (Paul) Hindemith's 'Symphonic Metamorphosis' is a four-movement work that is based on themes taken from Carl Maria von Weber's incidental music, and we will also feature one of Weber's own overtures (Overture to Der Freischutz) in the program."

As part of Music in Our Schools Month, music educators are invited to join the CSO as special guests in the VIP lounge during intermission of Thursday's concert, where they can enjoy free hors d'oeuvres and wine. To RSVP for the reception, call 423-267-8583 and mention the music educator discount when purchasing your concert ticket.

Tickets range from $15 to $85. They can be purchased by calling the CSO box office at 423-267-8583 or online here.
