Everybody in the family can be busy as bees this weekend as Creative Discovery Museum presents its 13th annual Honey Harvest, an homage to the life and work of honeybees.

During the two-day festival, July 27-28, visitors can make their own honey lip balm, beeswax candle and honey soap to take home. There also will be chances to taste different kinds of honey, participate in honey extraction at the hives and meet beekeepers from the Tennessee Valley Beekeeper Association.

In "Cooking on the Rooftop" at noon, chef Nick Goeller from 212 Market Restaurant will demonstrate how to prepare simple, fast and healthful meals using honey and other fresh, local ingredients.

The day's activities put the museum's Buzz Alley exhibit front and center. The permanent exhibit opened in 2011 to showcase the honeybee as pollinator. Buzz Alley also highlights the relationship between bees and wildflowers and the importance of beekeeping to help sustain healthy bee hives.

Hives of honeybees have long been a part of the museum's exhibits. The bees enjoy a habitat of wildflowers on the museum's green roof and the specially created ecosystem beneficial to the bees.

The museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with Honey Harvest activities scheduled from noon to 4 p.m.

Activities are included with museum admission.
