Education expert gives character an edge in student success

Paul Tough, author of "How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity and the Hidden Power of Character," will deliver a free public lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, in the Baylor School chapel, 171 Baylor School Road.

A child's future success is commonly tied to intelligence, as determined by test scores, from preschool admissions to SATs, but Tough argues that the qualities that matter most have more to do with character - skills such as perseverance, curiosity, conscientiousness, optimism and self-control.

The free program, to be followed by a Q&A and book-signing, is part of the Baylor Parent Alliance Speakers Series.
