The city of Collegedale is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 21, with a community party in the newly opened Founders Hall at Collegedale Commons, 4750 Swinyar Drive.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude with fireworks about 8 p.m.

"We want everyone to join us in honoring our past and supporting the present, while we strive to continue expanding the ideals of this progressive, vibrant and inclusive community," said Mayor Katie Lamb in a news release.

Festivities will begin with welcoming remarks then a performance by Southern Adventist University's orchestra at 6:30 p.m.

A special 50th anniversary video produced by Baron Williams will be shown at 7:10 p.m. After an award presentation at 7:25 p.m., the Founders Hall mural commissioned of artist Ali Kay will be revealed. Both the video and mural reflect on the city's beginnings, and highlight people and events that have helped make Collegedale the city it is today.

The celebration will conclude with refreshments before the fireworks finale.
