We're spilling the beans on where to get your morning exercise, a cup of joe, meet new people and discover local coffeehouses all in one experience: the Chattanooga Coffee Crawl.
Organized by Jeremiah Kinser, the Coffee Crawl is designed to introduce locals and visitors to bakeries and coffee shops they might not otherwise explore. The idea is to bridge the gap between craftsmen and coffee connoisseurs.
Crawls are held each Saturday morning aboard Pints and Pedals party bike, departing from the new Moxy hotel at the corner of King and Market streets.
The party bike is fueled by participants' pedal power, who are fueled by the coffee they consume. It seats a maximum of 15, but Kinser says only 12 are pedaling (the back seat holds three who do not pedal).
"For that reason, I recommend reservations because we have to have at least six or more to have a good time and help pedal. If we don't have at least six, I most likely won't take it out, or we will stay in a flat area."
Each week's route varies so participants can come back consecutive weeks and not visit the same location twice, but all routes will include two coffee shops and a bakery.
On Saturday, Jan. 12, the crawl will leave the Moxy, go to Mad Priest Coffee Roasters, 1900 Broad St., then Douglas Heights Bakery, 926 E. M.L. King Blvd., before finishing at Frothy Monkey in the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Previous crawls have stopped by Niedlov's Breadworks and Velo Coffee Roasters.
"It's about 20 minutes on the bike pedaling, 20 minutes in the stop, then 20 minutes on the bike again — back and forth for about two hours," Kinser describes.
The crawl costs $25, which includes a wristband. Crawlers pay for the drink or food of their choice at each location. Some stops will give discounts to crawlers when shown the wristband, but that varies by location and owner's discretion, says Kinser.
Participants are asked to arrive at the Moxy by 9 a.m. The crawl is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
