Winding from East Ridge's Camp Jordan all the way to the Tennessee Riverwalk, the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway is a major component in the development of Chattanooga's urban trail system - a piece that has been in the works for nearly 20 years.

Last weekend, the multi-use trail's grand opening celebration was an exciting moment for both the Trust for Public Land and the more than 30,000 area residents who live near and along the trail.

Last winter, a 190-foot bridge connecting East Chattanooga and the Riverwalk was installed. Now, only one, three-mile portion between the Brainerd levee and Faith Road remains to be completed.

"This isn't a 10-year focus now," TPL Director Rick Wood said in a previous interview. "It's a 'right now' kind of thing. We want this to be tangible so the public can see what we've been doing."
