Collegedale's Apison Pike awaiting approval to be dedicated as Veterans Memorial Drive

The city of Collegedale is making moves to dedicate a section of Apison Pike as "Veterans Memorial Drive" to honor service members and highlight the city's Veterans Memorial Park.

City Commissioner Phil Garver suggested the idea during the Board of Commissioners' Nov. 25 workshop.

"I'd like to bring up this issue one more time," Garver started, mentioning that he's brought the idea to the table before. "I see [these types of signs] all over America."

Over the last few months, the naming proposal has gained some more traction. At a Dec. 16 commission meeting, the board discussed next steps to bring the project to fruition.

"The next hurdle for this project is getting the State Congress to sign off on the naming," Garver said. "Then we will cross the next bridges relative to the project."

At the workshop, Garver said the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1697 would be willing to help cover the costs of three signs to be placed throughout Collegedale, but no further discussion has been made.

"Once you get within city limits, the sign will say 'Veterans Memorial Drive' on Apison Pike," said Garver.
