Local chapters of the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution always host a Christmastime luncheon at Chattanooga's Veterans Affairs clinic to show their appreciation for servicemembers and vets. Over the years, members noticed some of the people at the clinic were unable to partake because they were there for testing or surgery that required them not to eat or drink, said Susan Harris.

She and other members of the Chickamauga Chapter decided to recognize those patients with handmade patriotic-themed ornaments. They handed out more than 300 at this year's luncheon after spending hours handcrafting the gifts themselves.
