A Chattanooga structure steeped in history, hearkening back 127 years, is for sale.

The Mayor's Mansion Bed & Breakfast at 801 Vine St. near the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was built in 1889, according to broker Heather Lyons Bevil of KW Commercial.

The 11-room B&B was home to Edmond G. Watkins, who later became Chattanooga's mayor. In addition to the guest rooms, there is a studio apartment designated for an on-site manager, which also could be repurposed as a spa.

The owner's apartment is on the lower level and features a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and office nook, according to the broker.

The Mayor's Mansion also is a venue for weddings, corporate events and luncheons, in addition to creating a historical environment for people to get away, the broker said.

Located in the Fort Wood Historic District, the structure has a sale price of $1.59 million.
