A Hixson shopping center where a pair of grocery stores once served as anchors is on the market.

The former Earth Fare shopping center, with 39,705 square feet of space, is located in a central part of Hixson at 5414 Hixson Pike.

Built in 1983, the center has a sale price of $3 million, with 357 feet of frontage on the busy road.

The center offers a significant repositioning opportunity, according to Lori Schneider and David Gant of the firm Marcus & Millichap. Current tenants include Farm Bureau Insurance and Elliott's Boots, the commercial brokers said.

Organic foods supermarket chain Earth Fare opened its Hixson Pike store in the fall 2016. The grocer put the new store in space that had formerly held organic supermarket Harvest Grocery, which shut down earlier that year.

But early in 2020, the North-Carolina-based Earth Fare chain announced it was closing the doors to all of its stores. At the time, the grocer cited continued challenges in the retail industry as well as its inability to refinance its debt.
