Thirteen juniors to compete in Distinguished Young Woman of Soddy-Daisy on Saturday

Thirteen high-school juniors from the Soddy-Daisy and Hixson areas will compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Soddy-Daisy (previously known as Junior Miss) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The program will be held at Soddy Elementary School, 260 School St.

This year's participants are Sydney Bailey, Madison Burton, Tia Carter, Jessica Gilliam, Elise Halcomb, Amber Hatfield, Raven Keylon, McKayla Locke, Anna Marion, Whitley Phipps, Anna Skiles, Hannah Stimart and Brittany Whitworth.

According to Carol Pierce, campus coordinator for the local program, the young women will compete for $4,000 in college scholarships and the opportunity to represent Soddy-Daisy at the Distinguished Young Woman of Tennessee program in July. A panel of five judges will evaluate the teens in scholastics, interview, fitness, self-expression and talent.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door.
