Donald Trump's Tweets As An Early 2000s Emo Song

We noticed that Donald J. Trump's tweets are basically the lyrics to an early 2000s emo song, so we turned them into one.

Nick Lutsko has been a favorite on the local music scene for a while now, but he got a little national love this past week after working up a track for Super Deluxe for a video called "Donald Trump's Tweets as an Early 2000s Emo Song."

Super Deluxe is, as their website simply states, "a community of creative weirdos making videos that are (we hope) more substantial than much of what you see on the internet." Lutsko has been writing and recording songs for them for quite awhile now.

In addition to playing and recording his own stuff with The Gimmix, planning a wedding and buying a house, Lutsko works with Super Deluxe producers on ideas for new videos. He got the gig after writing a couple tracks that comedians Vic Berger and Tim Heidecker ended up using as their theme tracks for the election-coverage reports for Super Deluxe. Lutsko wrote the songs completely on spec and sent them to the two comics. They loved them, and, soon enough, he was in touch with Super Deluxe folks and put to work.

His first piece for them came about after a producer there suggested that then-candidate Trump's tweets "sounded super emo," a genre associated with overwrought, emotional, supersensitive, angst-ridden teenagers.

"I wanted to prove myself, so I did it all in about 12 hours and sent them a complete track," Lutsko says. "It got about a half million views, and we were happy with that. This is my eighth one for them now, I think."

At last look, the new video had been seen about 11 million times on Facebook alone and had been shared, retweeted or mentioned by Buzzfeed, Entertainment Weekly, actor Will Arnett, kerrang.com, irishexaminer.com, huffingtonpost.com, mashable.com and billboard.com, among about four dozen other places.

"This new one is blowing us out of the water," Lutsko says. "It's pretty freaking bizarre."

The video was released on Feb. 12, a Sunday, and was timed knowing that Alec Baldwin would again portray Trump on "Saturday Night Live" the night before. President Trump has made a habit of sharing his dislike for the portrayals via Twitter, and Super Deluxe was hoping he'd do the same this past weekend.

"We were kind bummed that he didn't [tweet], but it hasn't mattered," Lutsko says.
