Monday night's episode of "The Voice" opened with a battle round between Lee University senior Jared Herzog and Will Bremen.

The two singers were mentored by Usher and their coach, John Legend, before taking the stage to sing "Treat You Better" by Shawn Mendes. Both had good stage presence and strong voices; the difference seemed to be that Herzog never strayed from the melodic line while Bremen was more spontaneous in adding vocal riffs.

Following their performance, Coach Gwen Stefani told Herzog his opening was "so pretty" and that she was impressed by his control of his low range in the opening notes, but she "couldn't stop looking at Will."

Coach Blake Shelton told Herzog "you nailed your low notes and did a good job, but the problem is Will - that guy is unbelievable."

Legend evidently agreed and chose Bremen as the battle winner. Since none of the other three coaches used a steal to pick Herzog up on their team, he is done.

Legend later tweeted: "Jared and Will, I couldn't be more proud to have you on #TeamLegend. Great work by both of you."
