The latest exhibit in the SAS Gallery features works by two graduates of St. Andrew's-Sewanee School. "The Wild and the Mundane," an exhibition by Kellen Mayfield and Katie Craighill, runs through March 30.

"This gallery show combines drawings and paintings that highlight ways in which we relate to our environment," says a news release from Burki Gladstone, gallery co-director. "Mayfield's art focuses on the seemingly mundane character of certain human landscapes, inviting the viewer to re-examine the significance of our impact on space, while Craighill's intricate line work depicts wildlife and explores our understanding of and place in nature."

Both artists grew up in Sewanee and graduated from SAS - Mayfield in the class of 2012 and Craighill in 2013.

After high school, Mayfield spent five years making art, hitchhiking around the country and living for a while in Nashville and Oakland. He is a senior at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, majoring in studio art.

Craighill went to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where she studied biology and art. After graduating, she moved to Atlanta and started Savage Mountain Art and Design, an online digital gallery and store that sells her nature-themed art.

The SAS Gallery is located within Simmonds Hall on campus. Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday (Central time) and by appointment.
