Tennessee alerts consumers about health scam artists

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee officials have warned that scam artists may be going door-to-door trying to defraud consumers about new federal health insurance reforms.

Department of Commerce and Insurance officials said fake agents and sales representatives may be claiming to be with the federal government to peddle phony health insurance policies.

According to a news release, the elderly are prime targets.

Investigators said consumers should be wary of these unconventional ways of selling insurance and should always contact the department to verify the company and product being marketed.
