Western writers meeting in Knoxville this week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The wild West is the topic at a conference in Knoxville this week.

More than 50 of the best known western writers are attending the Western Writers of America Conference through Saturday.

On Friday, the experts will discuss the life and adventures of frontier legend David Crockett.

There will be free admission to the Museum of East Tennessee History where visitors can view Crockett's first "Betsy," a gun he sold to get money to buy a "courting horse" so he could woo Polly Finley. The 1806 marriage license is on file in Jefferson County.

It's the first time the conference has been held east of the Mississippi River.
