Lady Mocs advance in SoCon tourney

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The top seed in the Southern Conference women's basketball tournament proved why they earned that seed.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga defeated UNC Greensboro 82-64 early this afternoon in Bojangles Arena.

SoCon player of the year Shanara Hollinquest led all players with 24 points and five Lady Mocs scored at least 10 points.

Tenisha Townsend scored 15, Michell Davis 14, Kayla Christopher had 13, and Jenaya Wade-Fray had 10 points.

Lakisha Hyson led the Spartans with 16 despite bing in foul trouble for most of the game. Agnes Girstautaite scored 13 and Kendra Smith had 12 points.

The Lady Mocs earned a day off on Saturday and will play the winner of Saturday's matchup between Georgia Southern and the College of Charleston at noon on Sunday in Time Warner Arena.

UTC led 35-27 at halftime and by as many as 20 points late in the second half when Hollinquest exited the game.
