New guide provides tour of once-secret Oak Ridge

OAK RIDGE - A new pocket guide to the city of Oak Ridge and its connections to the Manhattan Project will give visitors a tour of the once secret city.

The guide, which is available now for sale at several locations around the city, is 35 pages and includes a detailed driving tour of heritage sites within the community, along with facts and historical photos from the World War II era.

The Oak Ridger reports that Martin McBride wrote the Oak Ridge Heritage Tour Guide with assistance from longtime city residents. The city became home to a secret federal research lab that helped to build the atomic bomb where more than 100,000 workers built and operated three large nuclear facilities.
