NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Metro Nashville judge has sentenced a man who killed his brother with a sword to 25 years in prison.
The Tennessean reports the sentence was handed down Tuesday to 34-year-old Charles Masters, who called last year's attack on 28-year-old Jordan Masters the "worst mistake of my life."
The attorney for the defendant asked for a lesser sentence, noting that he had a 20-year history of mental illness.
However, the judge said the gruesomeness of the crime outweighed mitigating circumstances and followed the recommendation of the prosecutor.
Masters, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, didn't ask for a shorter sentence when he took the stand at the sentencing hearing. He agreed that he should suffer the most severe penalty possible.
