Ex-owner of Nashville pediatric practice pleads guilty to fraud

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The former owner of a Nashville pediatric practice has pleaded guilty to health care fraud and was ordered to pay $1.6 million in restitution and damages.

Acting U.S. Attorney David Rivera said in a release today that Edward "Eddie" Hamilton, who owned Centennial Pediatrics PC, was also barred from participating in federal health care programs for 20 years.

The sale of Centennial Pediatrics, another requirement of the plea agreement, was completed on Oct. 31.

Hamilton was charged with billing for infant hearing exams that he did not have equipment capable of performing. He acknowledged billing for tests that would only be found necessary through microscopic examinations when his clinics had no microscopes.

The case was the result of joint investigation by state and federal agencies.
