Top 10 Trends from Chattanooga's Boutiques

Wondering what to add to your shopping list this fall? Get in on the runway trends and keep your closet looking fresh with these 10 looks for the season.

MOTO JACKETS

Motorcycle jackets get a makeover when paired with soft, feminine dresses or a tailored trouser this fall. "I love the way a leather moto jacket looks worn over a feminine dress," says Annie Hagaman, manager and assistant buyer at Willa Collection. "It adds an unexpected element to your look and can help you put a new spin on an old favorite dress in your closet."

KNITS, KNITS AND MORE KNITS

As the weather cools, chunky knits and relaxed layers are a girl's best friend. "From sweaters to dresses to 'coatigans,' knits are perfect for cold weather comfort," says Yacoubian Tailors buyer Ani Yacoubian.

MAD ABOUT PLAID

Plaid isn't just a staple for schoolgirls and lumberjacks anymore. Amp up your office fashion with a plaid pencil skirt or channel your inner '90s alt-rock star with a flannel shirt tied around your waist to take this trend street style.

ANKLE STRAPS & BUCKLES

Runway alert! Ankle fasteners were in full force on the catwalks as designers dressed-up stilettos, pumps and flats with these edgy straps and buckles, says Terri Holley, owner of Embellish Shoes.

OVERALLS

We know what you're thinking- overalls? But these aren't the Winnie the Poohembroidered monstrosities of yesteryear, these are a style revival that you should definitely consider. "We have a great black pair from Rag & Bone with side zips just in for fall that look adorable styled with a white tank or tee and worn rolled up with booties," says Hagaman. "Such a fun and different way to look put together yet laid back."

FAIR TRADE

Fashion for a cause is a trend that will hopefully never fade. With fair trade goods, you're purchasing fashion that empowers and equips women to uplift the lives of their families and communities. Check out the beautiful handmade jewelry from akolaproject.org, for example, and shop the looks locally at Yacoubian Tailors.

FALL FLATS

Not every day is a power pump day in the shoe life of a busy woman. Since we can't all be Rachel Zoe, thank goodness for this fall's fashionable take on the beloved flat. "Flats are always comfortable and always on-trend, especially when styles range from embellished skate-shoes to the feminized, man-shoe loafer," says Holley. "Whether your choice of flat has a pointed or rounded toe, or is a D'Orsay, you cannot go wrong this fall. Ladies, what's not to love?"

MOD WOMEN

Favorite trends from the swinging '60s made a comeback on the runways this fall. From knee-high boots to miniskirts, Mad Men-style looks are a perfect trend to embrace for a night on the town.

MULE MAKEOVER

The mule shoe is no longer reserved for the sophisticated over-60 set. New takes on this classic-from floral prints to sky high heels- give the mule a youthful look that is perfect for fall. "This season, slip into a modernized mule that showcases sleek stilettos and architectural shapes making it the 'go-to' shoe for any wardrobe ensemble," says Holley.

ESSENTIAL DENIM

The chambray shirt and jean jacket are two wardrobe staples that provide an effortless way to style almost any other item of clothing. "This is one of my all time favorite looks! There is no better item of clothing, in my opinion, than a great, broken-in jean jacket in a great wash," says Hagaman. "I have a hard time finding things in my closet that won't look great with my beloved, holy jean jacket."
