Dalton Police Department officer Daniel Harrison Tolbert was arrested Thursday on child molestation charges, according to a Whitfield County Sheriff's Office booking report.

His bond was set at $30,000.

32-year-old Tolbert joined the department in September after graduating from the Regional Police Academy in Athens, Georgia, according to the DPD.

A native of Fayetteville, Georgia, Tolbert graduated from Lovejoy High School, then earned a bachelor's degree from political science from Fort Valley State University, then earned a master's degree in criminal justice from Georgia College and State University, according to an announcement by the Dalton Police Department.

He previously worked for the U.S. Border Patrol in California, as well as a jail deputy in the Clayton County Sheriff's Office, and served in the U.S. Army from 2006 to 2008, according to the announcement.

Chief Jason Parker will hold a press conference at 8 p.m. tonight to discuss what a spokesman called a "personnel matter" in a news release.
