Whitfield County animal control officer charged with child molestation

A Whitfield County animal control officer was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of child molestation, according to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation news release.

On July 28, Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood asked the GBI Calhoun Regional Office to investigate an allegation of child molestation against Whitfield County Animal Control officer Kelly Cox, 33.

The investigation involved the GBI, the Whitfield County Division of Family and Children Services, and the Children's Advocacy Center.

Cox resigned from his position with Whitfield County during the course of the investigation.

After completion of the investigation, the findings were presented to the Whitfield County District Attorney's Office and warrants were issued for the arrest of Cox.

He has been booked into the Whitfield County Jail.
