The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public's help with identifying a man who stole two knives valued at a total of approximately $100 from Academy Sports and Outdoors.

The incident happened between 5:30 and 6 p.m. on Jan. 8.

The suspect, a white male weighing approximately 220 pounds with long dark hair and wearing jeans and a gray UGA "G" sweatshirt and a black toboggan winter hat, took two Gerber knives from a shelf and placed them into a shopping basket. He then went to a different aisle and put a blanket over the knives.

The suspect then went to a different area of the store near the bathrooms and left the basket with the blanket on a shelf and then walked into the men's room.

A store employee checked the basket and found that the knives weren't in it as the suspect walked out of the front of the store. The security alarm went off and the suspect fled on foot in the direction of the Cliffs Apartments on Waugh Street.

The incident was recorded on the store's surveillance and a picture of the suspect is included with this release.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to please contact Detective Matthew Lowery at 706-278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 133.
