17-year-old charged with attempted murder of 19-year-old

A 17-year-old has been charged in the attempted murder of a 19-year-old man in Jackson County, Alabama.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, authorities responded to a shooting call at 204 Spiller Ave. in Bridgeport.

Lataz Austin Smith, 19, had been shot in the leg by Trey Montez Hutchins, 17, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Smith was taken to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

Hutchins fled the scene and was caught in Stevenson, the release stated. He's been charged as an adult with attempted murder and placed in the Jackson County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
