Authorities searching for escaped Bibb County inmate

BRENT, Ala. -- Authorities in central Alabama are searching for an inmate who escaped during a work assignment at prison in Bibb County.

Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Bob Horton said in an emailed statement that 56-year-old Gene Milner Jr. escaped from the Bibb County Correctional Facility in Brent around 10 a.m. Thursday. Horton says Milner was outside the prison's perimeter fence during the work assignment and walked away from the facility.

Milner is serving a life sentence for burglary charges from 1988.

Authorities say Milner is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 146 pounds. He was wearing a prison-issued white shirt and pants when he escaped.
