Several backcountry paddle trips are scheduled this month in the Little River Canyon National Preserve.

Park Ranger Larry Beane will lead trips on a section of Little River known for easy paddling with Class I and Class II rapids. The tentative dates are March 14, 19, 21, 25 and 28. The all-day trips will include paddling from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with stops along the way to learn about safety and special resources in the park.

Paddlers will need to bring their own kayak/canoe, paddle, life preservers, food, water, hat and sunscreen. The water will probably be cold, and the weather may be cool, so dress accordingly. A dry suit, wetsuit, splash jacket, and warm change of clothes may be needed. The park will provide free shuttle service.

Space is limited; to register, call 256-845-9605 or email Larry_Beane@nps.gov. Although the program is free, RSVP is required. Time and meeting place will be given at that time.
