A nine-year-old severly autistic boy who wandered away from home Sunday night died after he was apparently struck by a train on some railroad tracks not far from his Sale Creek home.

Timothy Wallace went missing around 10 p.m. from his home at 520 Leggett Road, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.

Sheriff Jim Hammond said that Timothy, who was non-verbal, had walked away from home before and that his family had no idea which direction he might have gone.

Timothy was found around midnight, Hammond said, when an employee on a passing train spotted his body in a wooded area near the tracks.

Hammond said it appeared the boy was struck by a train.
