A tip led police to five pounds of meth at 309 Georgia Avenue, where they busted 46-year-old Manuel Martinez-Velasquez with drugs worth an estimated $244,000 on the street, according to a news release.

The bust on May 20 was the culmination of a four-month investigation that began in late January, after officers in the Dalton Police Department developed information that the suspect was selling meth, an addictive stimulant that can cause severe health problems in long-term users.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for an auto mechanic shop at 309 Georgia Ave., where Martinez-Velasquez works.

Police have charged Martinez-Velasquez with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and giving a false name to an officer.
