13-year-old boy shot in the face responsive, investigators say

A 13-year-old boy is responsive and cooperating with investigators after someone shot him in the face Sunday night, police said.

According to a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office news release, someone fired shots at 6828 Buck Trail Drive in Harrison around 8 p.m. Sunday. The responding officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to the face. Paramedics drove him to Erlanger Health System.

The boy was responsive Monday morning, a sheriff's office spokesman said. The investigation was still pending as of press time.

The boy is the 11th shooting victim under the age of 18 in Hamilton County or Chattanooga this year, Times Free Press records show. Before him, the most recent shooting victim was an unidentified 14-year-old, whom somebody shot four times on Aug. 23 during a drive-by in the 3100 block of Seventh Avenue. The shooter hit the victim in the chest, thigh and arm. The injuries were not life-threatening, investigators said at the time.

Of all the juvenile victims, according to Times Free Press records, one was killed. Kentrell Provens, 16, was shot in the chest while walking down Germantown Road on April 12.
