Boy now charged with reckless homicide in East Ridge shooting

A 15-year-old boy faces a charge of reckless homicide after the 16-year-old victim of a Friday shooting in East Ridge died Sunday at Erlanger hospital.

The victim, identified as Monserrate Ferrer, was shot in the head, according to East Ridge police.

Police said the victim was in the bedroom of a Bennett Road home with the unidentified 15-year-old boy when the shooting happened. Police said the weapon used is believed to be a .38-caliber handgun.

The 15-year-old was interviewed and initially charged with aggravated assault.

Capt. Tim Mullinax with the East Ridge Police Department said Monday that, after consultation with the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office, the charge was upgraded.
