Chattanooga woman found strangled at hotel

Chattanooga police officers arrived at a hotel on East 23rd Street shortly after noon Thursday to find a 34-year-old woman there dead.

Jeanette Scholten was found at The Chatt Inn in the 2000 block of East 23rd Street shortly after a call came in about a deceased female, according to a news release.

According to the release, investigators with the police department's Violent Crimes Bureau were advised at 3:45 p.m. Thursday that the Hamilton County medical examiner's office had done a preliminary evaluation of the body and determined the death was the result of manual strangulation.

The death has been determined a homicide.

All leads are being investigated by the Chattanooga Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau, and anyone with information is asked to call 423-698-2525.
