City, county, state declare this Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame Week

This will be a big week for local broadcasters Earl Freudenberg, Keith Landecker and Bill "Dex" Poindexter and station WUSY-FM (US101). Tonight they will be inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame, knowing that the city of Chattanooga, Hamilton County and the state of Tennessee have declared this Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame Week.

The induction ceremony is in Murfreesboro tonight at the Embassy Suites. Joining the Chattanooga-based inductees into the hall will be Harry Chapman, Warren Medley, Dave Overton, Aaron Robinson, Charlie Scott, Cal Young, Maxine Humphreys, Cathy Martindale and Bart Walker.

In making the proclamation to designate this as Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame Week, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger cited the longtime contributions of radio to the people of the county, via not only the music and entertainment played over the airwaves but the information such as news, sports, weather and traffic updates provided.

The proclamation also recognizes the mission of the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame in "preserving Tennessee's rich radio history, archiving its notable achievements and recognizing those individuals and stations that have elevated the art and science of broadcasting to higher levels for future generations, embracing new technology and simultaneously honoring the core of the broadcast profession, to wit, its people."

Freudenberg worked for much of his career at WDOD and is now at WDYN. Poindexter started at WRIP before working at WDOD and WFLI. He has been a staple at WUSY since 1994. Landecker came to Chattanooga's WJTT in 1989 from Cincinnati.
