Deputies tase, pepper spray man attempting to resist arrest

Walker County Sheriff's deputies deployed a taser and pepper spray against a man who they say tried to fight them.

Around 3 a.m., according to a news release from the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a complaint about a prowler outside the Endeavor Pointe Apartments in Rock Spring. They found 32-year-old Jimmie A. Goins with a kitchen knife. They told him to drop it, but Goins ran into a relative's apartment.

Deputies chased, according to the release. Inside, they said Goins resisted arrest and tried to fight them. That's when they deployed the pepper spray and the taser, and that's when they arrested him.

A deputy suffered a minor injury while trying to make the arrest and was treated at Cornerstone Medical Center.

Goins faces charges of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, obstruction, possession of knife during the commission of a crime and probation violation.
