SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A man has been arrested after authorities say he shot at three Shelbyville churches.

Bedford County Sheriff Austin Swing tells local media that 36-year-old Wendell Buchanan was arrested Saturday.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Buchanan shortly after someone fired shots into the nearby Horse Mountain Church of Christ. A search of Buchanan's car revealed a gun that Swing says is believed to be the type of gun used in the crime.

Swing says Buchanan is suspected of shooting at as many as three churches.

Buchanan has been charged with desecration of a venerated object, vandalism and destruction of property. Swing says additional charges may be forthcoming.

It's unclear if Buchanan has an attorney.
