An East Brainerd home was damaged in a Tuesday afternoon fire, and officials say "discarded smoking materials" may be to blame.

The Chattanooga Fire Department was dispatched at 3 p.m. to a home on Greenway Drive after the occupant of the home, George Bernham, arrived home and saw smoke, according to a news release.

An investigation determined the fire most likely started from improperly discarded smoking materials that fell into the pile of rags. No further damage was reported.
