Joy GreenA woman is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest after she allegedly punched a woman for not immediately returning her kayak and tried to walk away from being arrested.
Joy Green, 41, drove up to a woman's house on McGill Road in Soddy-Daisy on April 16 and demanded the woman give her kayak back, according to court records.
Green later told a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy that a close friend of hers loaned the kayak to the woman without Green's permission.
The woman told Green the kayak would be returned to her the next day, court records show.
"You're gonna get my kayak," Green responded, immediately punching the alleged victim with a closed fist while holding an unidentified metal object, according to court documents.
The alleged victim told the deputy that she felt her nose "pop" after being punched and blood burst from it as she fell to the ground, court records state.
At that point, a man ran up to the scene and pulled Green away from the woman, who was slumped over on the ground, court records show.
Green then ran back to her vehicle and sped away.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they noted the alleged victim's bloody face, shirt and pants, and that her nose was swollen and slanted to the right.
After interviewing the woman and a witness, deputies located Green. When they found her, Green admitted to fighting with the woman, but said it was only in self-defense. She did admit to throwing the first punch, according to deputies.
Deputies noted she had a red scratch on the right side of her throat and dirt on her right knuckle. That is when they told her she was under arrest.
But Green "balled both fists and pulled her hands to her chest" before turning around to walk away from a deputy, court records show.
The deputy then grabbed her by her right arm and put it behind her back before cuffing her.
Green was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
Records show she has an arrest history in Hamilton County dating back to 2000. Her charges range from driving without a license and DUI to child abuse and neglect.
