Chattanooga father killed in Wilcox Boulevard shooting

UPDATE: Chattanooga police arrested a suspect Tuesday in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Malik Sawyer.

A man is dead after a Sunday morning shooting in the 3200 block of Wilcox Boulevard.

Malik Sawyer, 18, arrived at a local hospital at around 1:44 a.m.

Chattanooga police were called and then informed that Sawyer had died from his injuries. They later found the crime scene on Wilcox Boulevard.

Upon hearing the news of his death, Sawyer's friends and family shared photos and memories of him on social media.

Within hours, Facebook was flooded with photos and videos of Sawyer and his "million dollar smile."

"These Are My First And Last Love," his girlfriend wrote publicly on Facebook. "I Lost My Boyfriend / Childs Father !"

She said she prays frequently for her family, herself and Sawyer, "So I Can't Even Wrap My Head Around It."

"WE been doing so good and been so happy," she wrote. "Now This I need you to watch over me , your family and OUR baby I'm so broken I Love You , WE Love You And Always Will . You Taken A Whole side of my heart with you these tears will never wash away the pain I'm feeling I can't even put long live malik at the end of this."

Others said they wished it was a dream and that their hearts were heavy.

"Malik touched so many people at Central," one woman wrote. "He was always making my day."

Sawyer's own Facebook page was still active at 3 p.m. on Sunday-a friend posting on his behalf.

"My lil brother Your LOYALTY can never be matched," the post, signed "Duke," read. "i still feel ya right beside me I'll post [for] you forever. I don't think its something we haven't talked about we talked about this. [I know] what u want me to do I'm sorry."
