An apparent lightning strike from storms moving through the area Tuesday night sparked an apartment building fire, according to a news release from East Ridge Fire Chief Mike Williams.

At about 8:23 p.m., East Ridge firefighters, police and Lifeguard EMS were dispatched to an apartment building fire at Belvoir Hills Estates on Bacon Trail. It had also been reported that a person was trapped on the second floor of the apartment building.

Heavy smoke was coming from the apartment building when crews arrived, according to the news release.

One crew deployed a ground ladder to a second floor window and rescued a resident while a second crew entered the structure to find and extinguish the fire.

The resident was taken to Erlanger hospital. The victim's condition is unknown at this time.

One firefighter was also taken to Erlanger and was later released. Another firefighter was treated at the scene for minor burns.
