Hamilton County Schools: 13 students injured in Villagewood Drive school bus crash Friday afternoon

UPDATE: Thirteen students on the bus that crashed on Villagewood Drive have been treated and 12 of those treated have been discharged from the hospital, according to a news release from Hamilton County Schools.

The students' injuries from the accident are reported as minor and they are being released as they receive treatment.

The bus was carrying 50 students from the Brown Middle and Central High schools.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department is in charge of the accident investigation, the news release stated.

Thirteen students were injured Friday afternoon in a school bus crash on Villagewood Drive in the River Oaks neighborhood. The bus was carrying a total of 50 students from the Brown Middle and Central High schools.

A news release from Hamilton County Schools did not describe how the incident occurred, but said a total of 13 students who had been on bus 331 were treated for various injuries. Four were transported immediately after the incident to the hospital with what officials on the scene described as "minor injuries," the release states.

School personnel responded to the scene and assisted transportation employees in contacting parents who later arrived to take the students home. One student was transferred to another bus and taken home, the release states.

Eight students have been discharged from area hospitals, including two that were transported by ambulance.
