A 25-year-old Jackson County corrections deputy working at the county jail was arrested Wednesday and charged with bringing tobacco, considered contraband, into the jail and delivering it to an inmate.

Rod Edwards Hanna, of Scottsboro, was immediately terminated, arrested and charged with promoting prison contraband 3rd degree, a Class B misdemeanor, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Hanna was booked into the jail on a $10,000 bond.

"During the interview process for corrections deputies I warn potential employees that if they are caught bringing banned substances into the jail they will be arrested, and that is exactly what happened," Sheriff Chuck Phillips said in the release.
