Motorcyclist killed in crash on Interstate 24

One person is dead after a traffic crash on Interstate 24 heading east at the Moore Road exit, according to Chattanooga police.

Police say a motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into the back of a tractor trailer around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The 30-year-old motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and was pronounced dead at the scene, a news release states.

His identity has not been released pending notification of family.

The driver of the truck was unaware that he'd been hit until he was stopped by police not long after the crash occurred.

A third car was damaged by debris in the crash, but no other injuries were reported.

Traffic was rerouted to South Terrace while investigators worked the scene.
